L.I. - Nassau police officer stabbed


Nassau County police say an emergency services officer was stabbed in the stomach by an emotionally disturbed man after he was barricaded inside a house Sunday.

Deputy Inspector Kenneth Lack, a department spokesman, said police had received a complaint about a mentally disturbed person throwing rocks at cars. Police went to the scene where they found suspect armed with a knife inside a vehicle at 122 Emery Street and Long Beach Road in Hempstead.

During an attempt to apprehend the suspect an officer was stabbed.

Emergency services came to the scene and took the officer to Nassau County Medical Center. There is no word on condition although the officer was conscious and alert.

The Nassau County PD will hold a press conference at 5:15 p.m. regarding the exact details of the stabbing of the officer.
