NY - Police search for vehicle after officer injured in accident

MASSAPEQUA, New York - A Nassau County Police Officer was injured after a police chase ended in an accident in Massapequa.

Police say the female officer was in pursuit of a suspect near North Broadway and Eastbound Southern State Pkwy at route 110.

The other car involved in the accident left the scene and police are searching for that vehicle. It is a grey model car possibly with Florida plates.

The officer from the 7th precinct was taken to Nassau County Medical Center where she is listed in serious but stable condition.

The high speed pursuit caused the officer to lose control of her vehicle and strike a guard rail head on.

"We were pursuing this car, we had our lights on and our sirens on," said Lt. Det. Kevin Smith.

The veteran officer of 19 years is married with children and recovering in ICU.
