NY - Nassau Cop Admits to Sexual Traffic Stop

Nassau County Police Officer Garrett Mannerz, 34, is accused of sexually inappropriate behavior during a traffic stop

Nassau County police officer on Tuesday has admitted to coercing a woman into touching him sexually during a traffic stop.

Garrett Mannerz, 34, pleaded guilty to official misconduct and resigned from the Nassau County Police Department, according to Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.

"Garrett Mannerz abused his authority by taking advantage of a woman while on duty, and his conduct was a disgrace to the Nassau County Police Department" Rice said. "Nassau County is a safer place with Garrett Mannerz off the police force."

Back in February, Mannerz pulled over a car carrying three women in their 20s in East Meadow. He conducted a sobriety test on the driver, ordered one of the passengers out of the car, commented on her outfit, and asked for her telephone number, D.A. Rice said.

Mannerz then had that woman walk to his patrol car, where he told her that if she "did something for him" he would allow them to drive off without getting arrested or ticketed, according to the district attorney. He them grabbed her wrist and made her touch his penis through his clothing, authorities said.

Mannerz let them drive off, but within hours began making dirty phone calls to the woman, D.A. Rice said. That woman recorded one of the calls and brought it to police.

Judge John Kase sentenced Mannerz to 80 hours of community service, ordered him to stay away from the women who were in that car, granted him a conditional discharge from the police force, the D.A. said.

Mannerz, who joined the NCPD in 2005, is not eligible for a police pension.
