Judge tells Jewish woman to shut up about ex.

JANICE SCHACTER Outside court yesterday.

Zip it!

A Manhattan judge has ordered the estranged wife of a prominent Manhattan attorney to stop bad-mouthing him to the media — for now.

Justice Laura Drager issued the temporary gag order against Janice Schacter after she refused to assure lawyers for her husband, Ira Schacter, that she would not give out sensitive financial information like his bank records or tax returns to the media.

Her high-powered hubby, who works at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, was upset about a recent story in The Post, where Janice accused him of blowing $215,000 on an engagement ring for his Playboy bunny girlfriend while refusing to pay for their teenaged daughter’s hearing aids.

“It was true. It was not a false statement,” Janice’s lawyer, Mickey Joseph, told the judge.

Schacter’s lawyer, Ashish Joshi, said, “This harassment has to stop.” “Every dollar Mr. Schacter spends on damage control is one dollar less for the children,” he said, adding that his client is worried that the bad publicity could cost him his job at the white-shoe firm.

Janice’s side, he said, hadn’t expressed any concern “about his career that supports them all.”

Joseph said his client did understand the possible financial ramifications, but has the right to speak her mind.

The judge ordered both sides to submit papers on the issue, and put the temporary gag order in place until she makes a permanent ruling.

  1. n 2002, Janice founded the Hearing Access Program (HAP) which is the only organization dedicated to helping the world's corporations, cultural and entertainment institutions, government agencies, and mass transit organizations improve their accessibility for people with hearing loss. In just seven years, HAP has worked with more than 60 organizations worldwide to establish or enhance their hearing access programs.

  2. The gag ordered was denied. The Judge never told her to "shut up" or "zip it". I suggest you get your facts straight.

  3. "zip it" or "shut up" would be a kind sentiment coming from the corrupt Judge Drager. In my case she screams violently, out of control whenever my lawyer attempts to present facts that refute her deal with the rich monied spouse. "Shut up and sit down or I'll fine you for contempt!" this Judge is openly for sale, always to the wealthy side. She impoverishes women and kids, ignores facts, denies due process and is beyond corrupt. She sits in the back with certain lawyers and tells the other side what she would like in the Stipulation. The feds overlook this blatant open secret bribery. Can't wait until she is striped of her robe that drips with the blood of innocent kids, and sits behind bars.
