A New Jersey dad has been charged with DWI in a tragic Staten Island accident that left his 9-year-old daughter in a coma and could cost her a leg, cops and law-enforcement sources said yesterday.
Vadim Shapiro, 44, was driving home from a bar mitzvah with his son and daughter on the West Shore Expressway service road at 5:45 p.m. Saturday when he slammed into a guardrail, the sources said.
The vehicle rolled several times and hit a concrete barrier before smashing into a tree.
Shapiro suffered a broken collarbone and his 13-year-old son was not hurt. But his 9-year-old daughter is in a medically induced coma, and doctors might have to amputate her badly injured leg, the sources said.
Shapiro, who lives in Belle Mead, NJ and owns a trucking company, has been charged with aggravated DWI, reckless endangerment and acting in a manner that injured a child younger than 17, cops said.
According to a law-enforcement source, Shapiro’s blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash was .14, nearly double the legal driving limit.

How about we examine the facts of this "Story" that DOUG AUER and JOSH SAUL stole strait from Your Jewish News. FACT: Girl was never in a coma. FACT: Girl was never at risk of losing her leg. FACT: the picture posted in the article in Your Jewish News was not even this families car, and not the car in the accident. FACT: the family was celebrating their own son's Bar Mitzvah. FACT: Not one person who has responded to this article was on the seen, at the hospital, nor witnessed any details. Yes the father was issued tickets, and like any other American, he will have opportunities to prove his innocence. This family is a very religious and loving and private family who are reeling from the accident. If there is genuine concern for their lovely little girl and their other children, let them all heal, sans the unwarranted scorn Mr Auer and Mr Saul manipulated you all into expressing.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a very religious family doing driving on Saturday at 5:45 pm? What about reports that the son was also drunk? I have been to these "Russian" bar-mitzvahs. They are a zoo and the children DO drink.
