THE BRONX, NY — PIX 11 has learned that 39-year-old Detective Kyron Collins, stationed out of the 52nd precinct in the Bronx, was arrested for conspiracy and robbery, the NYPD confirmed in an email Tuesday night.
Collins, along with two other defendants, was arrested for robbing "individuals dealing in contraband cigarettes, and other commodities in interstate commerce, at various locations in Manhattan and the Bronx," according to Southern District Court documents.
Collins was arrested Monday night after a string of robberies that began in October of 2010, according to the documents.
Collins, along with two other defendants -- Ammar Alkamel and Juan Carlos Arvelo -- is alleged to have used a firearm, a knife and in some cases even fake search warrants along with his NYPD shield to commit the crimes.
During one robbery on July 26th, Collins is alleged to have removed $7,000 from a victim's mattress. Surveillance video taken in the early morning hours near the scene of the crime on July 26th showed a black male matching Collins description carrying a jacket and wearing a holster on his hip that appeared to contain a weapon.
According to court documents, Collins was further linked to the scene of the crime by additional videos and cell phone records.
Collins' alleged accomplices, Alkamel and Arvelo, were captured on surveillance videos carrying the bags filled with cigarettes, according to court documents. Neither suspect is associated with the NYPD.
Collins was released on a $500,000 personal recognizance bond, cosigned by four people. Collins will not be allowed to roam freely: he has been placed under home incarceration as well as electronic monitoring and must surrender his passport by Wednesday. He must also surrender all firearms and agree not to possess any firearms.
