Bride-to-be dies in tragic fall from 5 story balcony at posh Evergreen Mountain Resort in Georgia
A bride-to-be died after falling five stories from a balcony at a posh Georgia resort, authorities said.
Elizabeth Ludwig, 33, of Milton, Ga., was staying with her fiancé at the Marriott Evergreen Resort in Stone Mountain when she mysteriously plunged off her room's balcony early Sunday morning, Atlanta's WSBTV television reported.
Stone Mountain Park Police said Ludwig's panicked fiancé called 911 around 2:45 a.m. to report that she had fallen.
Emergency responders found Ludwig lying on the ground below the balcony and rushed her to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she died.
Investigators said that the couple was staying at the hotel for a friend's wedding.
Stone Mountain Park Police Chief Chuck Kelley said investigators didn't know why or how she fell.
"I think what we have to do is wait till everyone that needs to be interviewed has been interviewed and of course the medical examiner finishes and we'll have a much better idea of what actually happened," he told the station.
"I did personally check the balcony and the railing there, and it's very sturdy and supportive," he added.
Investigators said the hotel was full for the holiday weekend, and they were hoping that a guest may have seen what happened.
