Monsey man convicted of stealing $190,000 from estranged wife's medical practice

NEW CITY — A Monsey man has been convicted in state Supreme Court of stealing nearly $190,000 from his estranged wife's medical practice.

According to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe, a jury convicted Yan Kutsy, 51, of 9 Wallenberg Circle, of second-degree grand larceny, a felony, Thursday following a two-week trial.

In December 2007, Kutsy opened a Washington Mutual Bank account under the name Rockland NY Medical Associates, P.C., the New City practice owned by his wife, according to Zugibe. Kutsy was listed as the only person with access to the account.

Over a period of 18 months, Kutsy proceeded to deposit checks made out to his wife's practice into the account, ultimately totaling $190,000, according to Zugibe. The theft went undetected until coming to his wife's attention.

Kutsy's trial began on June 2 before Justice William A. Kelly. The jury went into deliberation Thursday after closing arguments had been made in the case. That same day, according to Zugibe, a guilty verdict was returned.

Kutsy's attorney was not known Friday and the telephone number listed for his Wallenberg Circle home had been disconnected.

Kutsy is to return to court for sentencing on Aug. 24. He faces up to 15 years in state prison.
