Long Island pharmacy slayings: Four people shot, killed inside Haven Drugs in Medford

A mass murderer who killed four people in a Long Island pharmacy was on the loose Sunday afternoon.

Cops were hunting the gunman who opened fire at Haven Drugs in Medford just after 10 a.m. Sunday, killing two customers and two employees.

An 18-year-old girl working the counter and the pharmacist were both killed. One of the two slain customers was a grandfather.

"This is a vicious, horrible crime," said Suffolk County Police Chief of Detectives Dominick Varrone.

"We suspect that robbery was the motive."

Witnesses said pharmacy owner Vinodu Kudchadkar arrived after the shooting and fainted when he found his store full of police and blood. He was taken to the hospital.

The suspect fled after the shooting and was still at large.

Suffolk County police have not released a description of the suspect.

Police found the bodies when they responded to a call about gunfire at 10:23 a.m. from a customer in the parking lot.

"It appears at this time that it was one person involved, but it's under investigation," Detective Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky said.

The 30-year-old family-owned drug store is in a cluster of medical offices on Southhaven Avenue in Medford, which is near Patchogue.
