Feds Find Cocaine in Sneakers at JFK Airport

Customs and Border Protection agents at JFK Airport found cocaine hidden in sneakers that were inside abandoned luggage

Customs agents at John F. Kennedy International Airport found five pounds of cocaine hidden inside a piece of luggage that was apparently abandoned, officials said.

The bag had arrived on June 23 on a flight from the Dominican Republic and contained four pairs of sneakers.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers pulled apart the sneakers because they seemed unusually heavy, according to CBP. Inside the soles of the sneakers, they found a white powdery substance, which field-tested positive for cocaine.

The feds estimate the drugs have a street value of more than $100,000.
