Williamsburg, NY - Court Rejects Lawsuit of 'Domino Sugar' Development
Pass the sugar!
A state Supreme Court judge has rejected a lawsuit by opponents of a $1.5 billion luxury apartment complex planned for the former Domino Sugar factory site in Williamsburg, allowing co-developers CPC Resources and Isaac Katan to move forward with the 2,200-unit project.
The suit alleged the City Council and other city entities failed to conduct a proper environmental review of the project before approving a zoning change for it last year.
"This is great news for the community," said Councilwoman Diana Reyna (D-Brooklyn), who said the project will provide 660 affordable housing units.
Stephanie Eisenberg of the opposition group "Save Domino" said the group will likely appeal the decision. The developers expect to break ground in 2012.
