Man Held After Groping Flight Attendant's "Genital Area" On JFK Flight
NEW YORK -- An airplane passenger flying from London to New York is now reportedly facing federal charges after allegedly sliding his hand up the skirt of a flight attendant and groping her “genital area.”
Iurii Chumak, 53, was detained Thursday after the incident, which occurred on a British Airways flight bound for JFK International Airport.
According to reports, Chumak had been drinking from an open bottle of Dewar’s and had bothered and abused other women on the flight before trying to touch the flight attendant.
The incident occurred after the flight attendant poured coffee for Chumak, according to a misdemeanor criminal complaint obtained by The Smoking Gun.
“The flight attendant bent over slightly to pour coffee into their cups, at which time the defendant Iurii Chumak placed his hand up her skirt, grabbed her genital area, and began to run his fingers back and forth.”
After he was questioned by arresting officers at JFK, Chumak said he "was drinking on the airplane, fell asleep, and woke up in restraints."
Chumak was arraigned in U.S. District Court Saturday and was reportedly being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
