NY: FBI: Holiday Bandit Strikes Again

The so-called Holiday Bandit struck another bank in New York City Friday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced.

The bandit, whose real name is Marat Mikhaylich, 35, walked into a Capital One bank branch on Forest Avenue, Staten Island, just after 10 a.m., showed the teller a gun, and demanded cash, according to the FBI.

"Mikhaylich has repeatedly jeopardized the public safety in his brazen string of armed bank robberies," said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Belle Chen. "We need anyone who knows Mikhaylich or knows his whereabouts to speak up and call us immediately."

Mikhaylich has now robbed at least five banks in New York, the FBI said. Three banks are in Queens and one in Brooklyn.

The FBI describes Mikhaylich as a white, about 6 feet 5 inches, and approximately 200 pounds.
During each robbery, he usually wears a black hat, dark sunglasses, a black winter jacket, and dark pants, the FBI said.

The FBI said that Mikhaylich has also robbed these banks:

•Capital One Bank, 31-17 Broadway, Astoria, Queens, Wednesday, January 19, 2011.

•Sovereign Bank, 24-29 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City, Queens, Wednesday, December 30, 2010.

•Ridgewood Savings Bank, 8522 Third Avenue, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Wednesday, December 23, 2010.

•Sovereign Bank, 37-10 Broadway, Astoria, Queens, Thursday, December 9, 2010.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI-NYPD Joint Bank Robbery Task Force at 212-384-1000. Authorities are offering a reward for any tips that break the case.
