JEWISH TREASURES STOLEN IN MILAN FROM SYNAGOGUE

Ancient objects belonging to the Jewish community were stolen in Milan, local newspaper Corriere della Sera reported on Friday.

The stolen treasures include religious objects of considerable value, kept in the local synagogue and belonged to the Jewish community for centuries.

As learned from the community, the thieves took away the "six pairs of Rimonim, engraved silver tips overlooking the Sefer Torah, and four Keter (crown)," together with "very precious" silver and gold objects.

The total economic value could be estimated between 400,000 and 500,000 euros (543,000 and 679,000 U.S. dollars), but the historical one is priceless as the objects date back to 17th and 18th centuries, and had been preserved even during the persecutions of the Holocaust.

The president of the Jewish community in Milan, Roberto Jarach, expressed words of deep concern, stating that investigations are being conducted with maximum effort.
