Jewish Woman Dies In Coney Island High-Rise Fire
A middle-aged woman died today after her Brooklyn apartment went up in flames, officials said.
Shari Pasternak, 50, was apparently smoking in bed at about 7:30 a.m. when something caught fire inside her Neptune Avenue apartment in Coney Island, police sources said.
Seventy five firefighters quickly responded to the 22nd-floor apartment and extinguished the blaze about 40 minutes later, officials said.
Pasternak was rushed to Coney Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries at the same hospital
The New York City Fire Department has not yet determined where in the apartment the fire started.
Her Levaya is scheduled for Sunday morning.
