A Staten Island man was caught chatting up a hooker in Greenwich Village and then busted after trying to outrun cops in his city-owned car, sources told the Daily News.
John Caccavale, 48, a water and sewer operations manager for the Department of Environmental Protection, was spotted about 4:25 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
Caccavale was near Charles and Greenwich Sts. and sitting in the Toyota Prius when cops say he was "beckoning" for several known prostitutes.
Police said he was trolling for love in a location frequented by "The Bus Stop Boys," a group of transvestite prostitutes that waits for johns at bus stops to dodge loitering charges. As the cops moved in on the DEP hybrid car, Caccavale sped off from the failed rendezvous - but was quickly apprehended at West and Rector Sts.
He was not on the clock and had no business-related purpose for his predawn cruise into Manhattan, sources said. None of the prostitutes was busted.
Caccavale - a 21-year agency veteran - was suspended without pay from his $100,200-a-year job pending an internal investigation, DEP spokesman Farrell Sklerov said. His car was seized by police but later returned to the DEP, sources said.
Charged with loitering for the purpose of engaging in prostitution, Caccavale is due back in court on Feb. 1.
He faces up to 90 days in prison if convicted of the misdemeanor.
