Danielle Chiesi, a principal defendant in the Galleon hedge fund insider trading investigation, is expected to plead guilty in court on Wednesday, three legal sources said.
Chiesi's lawyer, Alan Kaufman, declined to comment, but he said he probably would make a statement later in the day after his client's appearance in U.S. District Court in New York.
The office of the federal prosecutor declined to comment.
The three sources said Chiesi was scheduled to appear at a plea proceeding before U.S. District Judge Richard Holwell.
Out of 24 people criminally charged in what federal prosecutors describe as the biggest probe of insider trading at hedge funds in the United States, 15 have pleaded guilty.
Chiesi, a former trader with New Castle Funds LLC, was arrested and charged with conspiracy and securities fraud in October 2009 along with Galleon founder Raj Rajaratnam.
