Family looking for missing Michigan woman in Manhattan
34-year-old Michigan med student has been missing since last Thursday, just hours after she was thrown out of her apartment following a rent dispute, and her family is increasingly worried about her whereabouts.
Aimee Angle-Zahn had been subletting a room on the 20th floor at The Vogue building at 990 Avenue of Americas from a man named Randy Williams when he threw her out. She has not been seen since.
"We are concerned because we haven't heard from her all week and we don't know where she is," the woman's mother, Debbie Angle, 58, said. "We just hope nothing bad happened. We hope she's not hurt or sick. She could've gotten involved with some bad people because she is a little naive."
Williams threw Angle-Zahn out of the apartment for not paying the rent and has called the family looking for the money, Angle said.
Debbie Angle said she received an email from her daughter that day and booked a room for her at LaGuardia Airport hotel in Queens. She said her daughter never showed up.
As a result, the woman's father flew in from Michigan Friday and contacted the NYPD, who refused to take a missing person's report. The family said since Angle-Zahn had a Michigan driver’s license, New York City police could not investigate her disappearance and that it was up to Michigan authorities.
Angle-Zahn has written scholarly papers, performed a surgical internship on a Navajo reservation, founded a nonprofit medical research organization and entered medical school three years ago following a brief career in biomedical research.
Despite her brilliance in science and medicine, “she can be clueless about the real world,” her mother said.
Angle had passed her medical boards, but was on leave from Cornell Medical School, her family said.
Angle-Zahn had been staying at The Vogue building since September and was paying $1,400 a month. She was living off an inheritance and suffers from epileptic seizure disorder, her family said.
"I'm hoping she's just overwhelmed and just couldn't cope. I'm worried," her mother said. "Right now, she's homeless [and] she could've gotten sick. She wouldn't hurt herself. She has a daughter she hasn't spoken to all week and that is unusual. I'm hoping she didn't meet some bad people because she is very gullible."
Angle-Zahn has an 8-year-old daughter named Audrey.
A link within a Google alert that I have for "missing persons" brought me here ... I live in Michigan and two years ago started an online network for families of missing persons and organizations called Peace4 the Missing http://peace4missing.ning.com -
ReplyDeleteI'm also a graduate of NamUs Academy as Michigans victim advocate ... NamUs is our governments national missing persons database.
Peace4 may be a great source for you to join as no one knows what you are going through more than other families of missing persons who too have been forced to endure this ... you are more than welcome to join.
So many thoughts and prayers being sent your way ... xoxoxoxo
