MOUNT VERNON -- The car found with the body believed to be a missing 32-year-old pregnant woman from Mount Vernon was parked in front of an NYPD police station, in a supervisor's reserved space, unnoticed by the NYPD, Mount Vernon police said today.
A Mount Vernon detective finally recognized the car Tuesday night after leaving a meeting with NYPD officers.
Police are trying to determine if the body is that of Gizela Andrade, who has been missing since Sept. 25 and is a diabetic, Mount Vernon police Chief Barbara Duncan said. Police have scheduled a news conference for 1:30 p.m. at police headquarters.
Mount Vernon Detective Roberto Boncardo located the body at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Detective Boncardo was in the Bronx visiting the police station to exchange information with them about the missing woman, Chief Duncan said.
As Boncardo returned to his car he spotted a white car that he thought belong to Andrade. As he walked up to the white 2010 Toyota Venza he spotted a dead woman in the driver seat.
The car was in a reserved police supervisor's space in front of the police building at 500 Abbot St., a dead end in the Bronx off Baldwin Street, which is south of Mount Vernon's South MacQuesten Parkway.
New York City police today were keeping the press away from the site where the car was found.
Duncan said initially there did not seem to be any signs of trauma to the body.
It is not known how long the car was in the spot.
Police are trying to identify the body.
Andrade left home after a dispute with her boyfriend, police said. She is a diabetic patient and was four-months pregnant.
A preliminary autopsy by the New York City Medical Examiner's Office determined that Gizela Andrade, 32, died from an overdose of the diabetes medication, Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Carl Bell said Wednesday.
ReplyDeletePolice said Andrade wore an insulin pump and had a two-week supply of the drug when she left home Sept. 25 after an argument with her boyfriend, Arildo Ribero, 40.
Andrade, who was four months pregnant, left in the 2010 Toyota Venza in which she was found near the Mount Vernon border.
