FBI agents found panties belonging to a missing Russian translator and pornographic photos of a jewelry importer in the home of a Brooklyn couple charged with killing them and stealing their identities.
Lawyers for Dmitry Yakovlev and his wife, Julia, argued yesterday in Brooklyn Federal Court to keep the evidence out of the couple's upcoming trial.
Dmitry Yakovlev is charged with killing translator Irina Malezhik, who vanished in 2007, and Viktor Alekseyev, whose dismembered body parts were strewn in a New Jersey woods in 2006.
The couple also is charged with committing frauds using the victims' names.
Agents excavated the couple's basement in Sea Gate for Malezhik's remains in August 2009. They didn't find a body, but panties found on the boiler room floor contained Malezhik's DNA, according to FBI agent Tracie Razzagone.
Inside a filing cabinet, agents also found a thick envelope containing photos of Alekseyev and an unidentified woman "involved in intimate situations," Razzagone said.
Julia Yakovlev's lawyer said his client was unaware of the items. "She's shocked that it was discovered," said Alex Grosshtern.
