Judging from the few facts that are mentioned it sounds like a very questionable charge, not likely to involve full criminal or moral culpability, even if you take the unproven allegations as actually having some substance, which is not clear until proven in court. Do the math on the dates and ages! When it started he was 25 and she was 13. What they used to call “jail-bait”. Which means that even if she consented or even instigated the sex, it is considered technically non-consensual due to her age. Also, it lasted 10 years, until the girl was 23!, which is a pretty good indication that it was actually consensual. Then it took another 12 years before the victim realized that she was not satisfied, and that due to the ages at the time of this relationship she could actually get this poor schmuck into a hell of a lot of trouble. Bottom line: Likely scenario is that this guy’s main crime was foolishness, unless it is actually nothing more than a setup.
Further to the previous comment, a common scenario for this type of charge in this type of circumstance is unfortunately when the guy wants to leave the relationship and the girl (who was underaged, but actually wanted the relationship) uses criminal charges for statutory rape as a way to pressure the guy into staying in the relationship or providing a pay-off of some kind. It's not clear this is what happened here, but it seems quite plausible given the circumstances in the press release.
I absolutely believe these charges to be true. I worked for this pig for 6 months and he was disgusting and inappropriate the entire time. He's sick, and I hope they throw the book at him.
